The qualification is equivalent to A Levels and will also give UCAS points for entry into university to study health, child care or social care subjects, or enter into employment in these fields.


You will study a number of units which include practical activities and encourages you to enjoy and achieve. You will need to pass all eight mandatory units and achieve at least 180 credits overall in order to gain the full qualification. Mandatory units include; developing effective communication in health and social care, equality, diversity and rights, development through the life stages, fundamentals of anatomy and physiology, sociological and psychological perspectives for health and social care. Other units studied might include: nutrition for health and social care, health education, complementary therapies, infection prevention and control, counselling, medication , anatomy and physiology, caring for children and young people, dementia care and vocational experience for health and social care. You will be encouraged to develop a range of skills, techniques and personal qualities essential for successful performance in either Higher Education or working life.

Year 1 course = 90 credit Diploma
Year 2 course = a further 90 credits providing in total a 180 credit Extended Diploma
