On completion of this course, you will be in a great position to enter the specialist dental care profession through higher education. Undergraduates develop their skills that will enable them to make an effective contribution to the dental technology sector. Studying both theory and practical lessons ensures you are competent in providing the clinical team with dental appliances that are fit for purpose. There are opportunities for innovative, imaginative and creative learners in all the units of this qualification, in both taught sessions and the assessment of each unit. This course is the higher level programme for registration as a Dental Care Professional with the General Dental Council to enable you to practice as a Dental Technician and can be studied full or part time.
The course is designed to allow you to develop your skills in all aspects of work carried out as a dental technician. The practical elements are developed in our dental laboratories where you will gain knowledge of materials, techniques and equipment commonly found in the dental technology sector. Practical work is underpinned with theoretical classes that will build your confidence as a young, new professional. You will learn how to use dental materials but you will also understand how to select them and why they are used as part of a dental appliance. The role of the dental team and specifically the role of a dental technician is a key area of development. All learning that occurs on the programme is designed and regulated by the General Dental Council. Strong elements in the programme include mathematics and science and will appeal to those wanting to develop these academic areas. We have the most modern facilities in England for developing dental technicians. Our courses have a strong record of progression into employment and higher education including BSc (Hons) and MSc. The course leads to professional registration and a lifelong learning career.
