Design of Concrete Bridges to Eurocodes
Introduction
This training course offers an introduction to the design of concrete bridges, using Eurocode 0, Eurocode 1 and Eurocode 2 including their National Annexes and published documents for the UK.
The course covers bridge actions (except wind), materials, durability, design of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete for ultimate and serviceability limit states and detailing.
The design of an integral bridge is used as an example.
Course Content:
- Actions to Eurocode 0 and Eurocode 1: combinations, partial factors, self-weight, traffic, temperature, execution.
- An introduction to Eurocode 2: materials, partial factors for materials and durability.
- Design to Eurocode 2: ultimate limit states, bending, shear, torsion.
- Design to Eurocode 2: fatigue and serviceability limit states : stresses, crack control.
- Detailing to Eurocode 2: reinforcement, prestressing.
- Worked example of an integral bridge.
Speakers:
Paul Jackson
Paul Jackson, BSc(Hns), PhD, CEng, FICE, FIStructE, is a Technical Director of Gifford which he joined from BCA in 1988. He has worked no bridge design, assessment, construction, strengthening and research. He has been extensively involved in the development of codes of practice and is currently a member of the BSI committee for Bridges and Convenor of its working group for concrete bridges. He served on the Project Team for EN 1992-2.
Keith Wilson
Keith Wilson, MA, CEng, MICE, is a private consultant having retired in 2007 after serving as a Director of Maunsell Ltd and as a Technical Director of Faber Maunsell. Keith has been involved with Eurocodes for over 15 years and has served on a number of drafting committees and advisory groups. Most recently he has been a consultant to the team drafting the Irish National Annexes for the bridge parts of the Eurocodes. He is also the author of books and manuals on Eurocode 2, particularly in prestressed concrete applications.
