This course is about learning the basics of how to use Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop – the three main programs used by graphic designers for print. Gain experience with the different software and learn how they can be integrated in your projects while you explore a variety of design techniques and concepts The course is taught on Apple Macs but skills learnt can be applied to Windows PCs.

About this course

- Identify the main differences between, and the uses for
Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
Use Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign for the following:
- Create designs
- Layout page/s with text and images
- Set up and indicate: bleed, crop and fold marks for folded materials
- Save a body of work for future development.
- Export a pdf for print or online viewing
- Export images for web and print.

No books are necessary to take this course, but you should have a notepad for your written notes. It would be useful to bring a memory stick (or portable hard drive – please note PC formatted hard drives can be read by Apple mac computers, but not written to.)

You will be taught with workshops, short lectures, practical exercises, tutorials and handouts and will be supported by the tutor and your peers when developing your course-work. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Digital arts, Graphics & Illustration and Photography..

- Typography basics, saving text styles and wrapping text around images
