This course is designed for students, teachers, designers and textile artists who would like to investigate the
creative potential of computers in textile design. While learning Photoshop, we explore colour, texture and
pattern.

About this course

- Produce and save a range of digital textile designs for future development
- Produce some designs as prints on paper
- Feel confident and competent in using a computer and Photoshop for textile design
- Feel challenged to take design work further in the future.

Books can be recommended but are not essential purchases. Printing costs are covered on the course. You will
need to buy CDs/ USBs for storing your work at the advice of the tutor.

The programme will be taught through demonstration and helpful guidance. Technical assistance will be
available. Macs will be used, with Photoshop compatible to PC.

Course programme

The course covers:
-Painting and drawing on screen
-Creating patterns and textures
-Scanning images and fabric samples
-Collage, photomontage and image manipulation
-Repeat pattern and colourways
-File management and saving of digital designs
-Printing possibilities for textiles - on paper and cloth
You will work to a project of your choice, relating to your own work or favoured theme, with guidance from the
tutor.
