Emotional intelligence, referred to as EQ, is all about the ability to be aware of, control and express emotions along with handling different relationships maturely. Someone with high EQ stands out because they are skillful at developing teams that are more productive and seen as a positive influence at work.

Demonstrating emotional intelligence in the workplace applies to every interaction in your business – it’s widely agreed that that people who display high EQ are ideal to take on leadership roles. This course covers the development and use of emotional intelligence to increase self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management in the context of the workplace.

About this course

Identify and use evaluation criteria to determine own emotional strengths and weaknesses

This course applies to managers who identify, analyse, synthesise and act on information from a range of sources and who deal with unpredictable problems. They use initiative and judgement to organise the work of self and others and plan, evaluate and co-ordinate the work of teams.

There are no formal educational entry requirements for this course.

To support a successful learning experience student will require:

1. Minimum technology requirements including access to a device (desktop/mobile/tablet), reliable internet connection and use of a personal email account.

2. Access to a current or previous workplace to support the completion of work-based assessment and observation. Students who do not have access to a work environment will be supported with an alternative scenario.

This course includes the below unit of competency which is also a core and/or elective unit of competency within a range of nationally recognised qualifications.

COURSE CONTENT

This course is structured in four modules:
  • Understanding your own emotional strengths and weaknesses through self-awareness and reflection
  • Apply emotional intelligence to workplace situations and dealing with others
  • Build emotional intelligence in others to foster improved relationships and outcomes
  • Leverage the emotional strengths of team members to lift performance and develop a positive work environment
COURSE ASSESSMENT

All accredited courses include assessment. To gain a Statement of Attainment you must attempt and be deemed “competent” in each assessment item.

Your trainer will work with you to ensure you understand what is required in each assessment item. The assessments may take the form of questions, written projects, case studies, workplace scenarios or observation.

Each assessment method provides a different type of evidence. Taken together, the complete assessment provides a holistic view of your ability to perform competently and confidently in the workplace to the level set down in the Competency Standards.
