Over the period of a year, you will develop your own body of artwork and attend a series of work-based seminars facilitated by artist-teachers, both onsite in workshop, tutorial or seminar contexts, and offsite on organised gallery or studio visits. You will have the opportunity to submit your work for critical discussion to support your development, receive personal tutorials on your developing practice and participate in guided on-line discussion. The course is taught by professional artists, makers and theorists who will assist you in building your art practice in a supportive and professional context.

About this course
- develop and sustain a body of personal creative project work in any area of art practice
- build confience and critical awareness in assessing your creative progress and practice
- relate your work to various aspects of contemporary fine art practice and participate confidently in critical discussion
- explore a possible context for your work and make relevant applications or submissions if appropriate
- present an on-line portfolio and develop a personal approach to presenting and representing your work.
If you do not have access to a computer, you will be able to arrange access to a PC at City Lit, in our learning resource centre. We recommend you bring along a notebook or sketchbook, and a pen. You may wish to buy books related to topics and subjects explored. Offsite visits will take place in galleries and art sites across London so you will need to be able to travel with the greater London area on public transport. All sites selected will be free of charge, however you may wish to visit exhibitions with entrance fees independently.
You will be expected to develop your personal practice outside of seminar sessions and personal tutorial hours, post images or work online for discussion, and contribute to a discussion forum outside of the set course hours.

Course programme
Over the year, you will develop and sustain a programme of personal or collaborative art practice. You will be supported in developing and enhancing the critical understanding of your personal work through studying alongside a like minded creative community of tutors and peers. As part of the course you will create and develop an on-line portfolio, which will form the basis of discussion, critique and exchange, and act as preparation for submissions and applications for exhibitions, further higher level study or other creative opportunities. As part of this, the tutor team will provide advice and mentoring support. In between taught sessions, those on the course will be expected to be working indendently on their creative project and participating in dicsussion and exchange via the course virtual learning environment (support will be provided on using this facility at the start of the course).
