The module has been designed to support health care practitioners develop a critical understanding of the positive approaches in care for those individuals diagnosed with dementia.

About this course

On completion of this course you should be able to:

Demonstrate a range of advanced interpersonal and communication skills which will enable positive interactions with individuals with dementia, their families and carers
Implement and critically evaluate evidence based approaches to care that impact positively on individuals with dementia, their families and carers
Critically discuss organisational, structural or personal barriers that could impact on positive approaches and role performance that enable care and identify strategies to overcome these
Critically appraise the contribution from service users and carer engagement in current service delivery to achieve positive outcomes to care

Module description

As Advanced Practitioners already working independently, you will be considering how these positive approaches to care will prepare you for the future challenges in this ever growing, and complex sphere of professional practice. You will be examining key concepts and principles of contemporary dementia care, drawing upon your own experiences and practice. Through a process of critical enquiry and whilst promoting person-centred care, the module aims to enable you with future service development within your own practice setting, working with individuals living with dementia across the lifespan.

About this module

The module covers person centred assessment and positive risk management; communicating positively; equality, diversity and inclusion in service development; legal, ethical and professional issues; pharmacology and differential diagnosis; leadership and management; end of life care and service user involvement.
