If you enjoy experimenting with the creation of images, videos, music, electronics, software or code, this is the programme for you.Digital Arts will appeal to students with an artistic flair who are fascinated by the creative potential of emerging technology and want to make work that confidently applies it in new and exciting ways.What will I learn?You will learn to apply artistic approaches to; screen-based image and interaction, animation and motion graphics, music technology, interaction design, physical interface design and creative computer coding. You will work inventively with creative software and hardware, including devices such as Arduino and Kinect, and use consumer and professional-level video and audio equipment in an arts context.The programme also covers how to work imaginatively with data and networked information (for example creating work in response to social media trends and open source feeds). You will have the opportunity to use technologies such as 3D printers, laser cutters, robotics, wearable technologies and textiles in your work too.You will learn how to apply different strategies to achieve your objectives, and work to creative briefs and deadlines. You will also learn to reflect critically on the quality of your work, and express its artistic value in the context of relevant discourses and histories. Sometimes you'll work with other students on projects using collaborative tools that are widely used in the professional sector.Throughout the degree, you will be challenged to develop artistic work to the best of your ability and to show it in public. You will also build a portfolio that demonstrates the depth and range of your expertise as an emerging digital artist. About this course

Applicants from a UK educational background:You will need a minimum of 112 UCAS points. This could be 3 A-Levels at grades BBB or an equivalent combination of A-Levels and BTECs. Ideally, these should include creative subjects such as art, music/ music technology and practice-based media, although applications will be considered from students with science and computing qualifications if they have a strong portfolio of creative work. Careers The programme will prepare you for careers in established and emerging creative industries based around digital technology. Areas of employment include motion graphics for TV, film and computer games; transmedia authoring and production; projection mapping and interaction design for live events and performance; digital sound and music production; and creative computer coding. You will develop a sense of curiosity, experimentation and imagination highly valued by organisations looking to harness the creative potential of digital technology. You will also have the necessary skills and knowledge to progress to postgraduate study. Contact hours and support Typically, you can expect 12 contact hours per week in classes of 20-30. Teaching is a mixture of workshops and studio work, seminars and lectures. There is also specialist tutorial support for project work.
