This course will provide you with the means to become a more confident and informed digital citizen. You will learn how to manage different types of files and organise your work both on your PC and in the Cloud. You will become confident in your use of the Cloud and how this differs from relying on your hard drive. You will become confident in using Windows and also learn how to troubleshoot common computer problems. In addition, following on from recent events involving Facebook and data security, you will learn how to better protect your information and personal details and keep them secure. Finally. you will also explore how to make the most of free resources on the web including government and educational websites to enable you to become an informed and digitally active citizen. In the world of Breitbart, alt-right and Brexit, we look at ‘fake news’. What does reliable news mean, and where can you find it?

About this course

Please bring a folder, pens and paper. There are no additional costs.

This will be a practical and interactive hands-on course. You will be encouraged to discuss and share your ideas. Each student has their own computer and an interactive whiteboard will help make the course content easy to understand. It will be a relaxed learning environment and step by step learning will help you become more skilled. You will have lots of opportunities to ask questions and address areas you need help in.

There are a variety of other courses you could do either at the same time or after this course. We have a number of courses on Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint many of which are specifically geared to helping you in the workplace. We also have IT Skills for the Office: an introduction or intermediate, Making sense of Windows 10 and Digital Skills for find a better job. We have a number of courses with qualifications including Ecdl Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. You can try Pathway to ECDL if you are unsure if you want to do a qualification course straight away.
