A good bricklayer needs to know how to use the tools of the trade, how to work safely and make sure others are safe at the same time. This introductory course will help you to learn about these skills, plus the principles of building, block laying and how to do it. You also find out what a cavity wall is and how to build one, learn the theory of mortar making and an introduction to drawing specifications, alongside understanding the day to day skills of a bricklayer.

Overview
A good bricklayer needs to know how to use the tools of the trade, how to work safely and make sure others are safe at the same time. This introductory course will help you to learn about these skills, plus the principles of building, block laying and how to do it. You also find out what a cavity wall is and how to build one, learn the theory of mortar making and an introduction to drawing specifications, alongside understanding the day to day skills of a bricklayer.
Entry Requirements
No formal qualifications are required, you will have an interview with the specialist tutor and an assessment of English and maths will be made at enrolment. You must also have a keen interest in the subject, good hand eye coordination and be able to read measurements.
Course Duration
One year, full time.
Skills and Benefits
The Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying qualification has been developed for delivery in College; this means that you do not need to be employed to study this qualification. The course is designed to give basic knowledge and practical experience in Brickwork.

Course Assessment
You will be assessed on your practical ability to national standards and your theoretical knowledge will be tested by both paper and online exams.
Progression
Upon successful completion of the qualification you will be able to apply for the Diploma Level 2 in Brickwork. The course has been designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding so you can work as a Construction Operative in the Construction Industry or progress to further training.
