About this course

The Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Management (QCF) is suitable for learners who want a generic qualification which is suitable for a wide range of management roles as it allows learners to demonstrate competency as a manager and also provides underpinning knowledge and understanding of the role.. The qualification forms the combined knowledge and competence element of the Advanced Apprenticeship Framework in Management.

Gateway Qualifications offers other Level 3 qualifications which may be more suitable if learners wish to specialise within specific sectors in a team leading or lower managerial/supervisory role, for example within customer service or business environments or the logistics or retail sectors. The following qualifications are available from Gateway Qualifications:

Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Business Admin (QCF) – which is suitable for people working at supervisory level in business administration role
Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Customer Service (QCF) – which is suitable for people working within a customer service environment in a team leading or supervisory role
Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Certificate in Retail Knowledge (QCF) – which provides the underpinning knowledge and understanding for working within the retail sector or the Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Retail Management (QCF) which enables learners to demonstrate their competency in working within retail supervisory or management roles
Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Supply Chain Management (QCF) allows learners to demonstrate competence whilst learning the underpinning knowledge and understanding of supply chain management
An alternative qualification which includes supply chain, but also has a focus on procurement is the Gateway Qualifications Level 3 Diploma in Procurement and Supply (QCF).

It is suitable for those wishing to change career or moving to a particular area of employment following a career break. Many learners will already be working in management roles.

The qualification provides learners with a range of management techniques and leadership skills, such as managing performance and developing self and others, contributing to meetings and leading a team.

Course programme

What is the qualification’s content and structure?

This qualification covers the core skills, knowledge and understanding needed to work in management roles.

The qualification comprises of 55 credits and requires between 284 and 371 guided learning hours.

Learners will complete five mandatory units:

  • Manage team performance
  • Principles of people management
  • Principles of business
  • Principles of leadership and management
  • Manage personal and professional development

They will then select optional units from a range of groups including:

  • Manage conflict within a team
  • Procure products and/or services
  • Implement change
  • Implement and maintain business continuity plans and processes
  • Collaborate with other departments
  • Support remote or virtual teams
  • Participate in a project
  • Develop and maintain professional networks
