The modules are:

1. Data Design

This module is designed to provide you with the skills to enhance the quality and usefulness of data analytics by starting with the intended outcomes. The module will enable you to consider what it is that an organization wants to gain from data analytics. This will give you the skills to select the most appropriate data collection method, design deployment approaches, implement data collection approaches and revise instruments and systems to be developed.

This module incorporates automated data collection as well as traditional methods of data collection to enable the development of methodologically sound approaches.

2. Data Handling and Decision Making

This module is designed to introduce the theoretical concepts and practical applications of data auditing, handling and decision making. It will equip you with the skills of identifying what the findings from data analysis mean and how they can be applied. You will learn approaches that can be used to audit the existing data within an organizing to identify gaps, analyze data and generate recommendations from your findings.

3. Working with Data using SAS and SQL

This module gives you an opportunity to get practical experience in handling data using analysis software.

The module will also cover theoretical concepts from data design and handling while teaching more techniques to work with SQL and SAS. Such skills enable you to be ready for working in industry as data analyst, helping you build necessary knowledge in data manipulation.

The module is designed in two parts: part one focuses on learning fundamentals of Structured Query Language (SQL) with multiple exercises, which is essential in working with databases. You’ll get hands-on practice to access and manipulate data in order to get useful insights. In part two, you will learn how to use SAS software for data handling and analysis.

4. Data Visualization and Interpretation

This module is partnered with the data handling and decision-making module and enables you to develop your skills in data presentation to facilitate the understanding of findings and to enable you to make informed decisions.

Data visualizations are a powerful method of making data accessible and understandable to non-specialists. Through this module you will learn the appropriate use of graphs and charts as well as the use of specialist data visualization packages and the tools available to visualize data mining outcomes.

5. Work Placement

At the conclusion of the program, you are required to complete 240 hours of work placement in a suitable business environment. Appropriate business sectors for placement include: marketing, retail, finance and accounting, not-for-profit, customer care and administration.
