Overview
On this introduction to Plastering, you will learn the basic of tool manipulation, how to prepare walls and surfaces, plus the correct way to apply plaster onto walls and surfaces. You’ll complete Health and Safety training as required by the industry, whilst improving your own communication with other tradespeople. By the end of the course you’ll also have gained skills in a range of bathroom and finishing techniques.

Entry Requirements
No formal qualifications are required, you will have an interview with the specialist tutor and an assessment of English and maths will be made at enrolment. You must also have a keen interest in the subject.

Course Duration
One year, full time.

Skills and Benefits
The Level 1 Diploma Plastering will enable you to acquire the knowledge and understanding that will help you gain employment in the Plastering trade. This is a practical and theory based course which consists of you working through a number of work based units.

Mandatory Units
Health, Safety and Welfare in construction Principles of building construction, information and communication Prepare background surfaces and mix plastering materials Applying scratch coats to internal backgrounds Fixing sheet materials Applying floating coats to wall Applying setting coats to wall

Optional Units
There are no optional units on this qualification.

Course Assessment
There are seven units in total to complete. The practical assessment is continual throughout the course with job knowledge tests at the end of each unit. There are also two short written paper tests to assess knowledge and understanding.

Progression
At the end of this qualification you will have a good degree of knowledge on plastering. All successful students may have the opportunity to progress onto a Plastering Diploma Level 2 or an NVQ Level 2 through the work based evidence route.
