Course programme
This DIY foundation course will provide you with the basic skills and knowledge necessary to enable you to undertake basic plumbing activities in your own home.
By the end of the programme you should feel confident to undertake some of the common breakdowns and faults encountered on domestic plumbing and heating systems. There are no exams required and we will award you with a certificate at the end of the course.
Course Content
DIY Plumbing areas covered include:
- Awareness of Different Types of House Installations (Know Your Own System) – Theory
- Isolating Water Supplies – Theory
- Repairing/Replacing Taps: Rising Spindle, Non Rising Spindle and Ceramic Disc – Practical
- Repairing/Replacing Float Operated Valves in Storage Cisterns and WC Cisterns – Practical
- Repairing Replacing Isolation Valves: Stop Valves, Gate Valves and Ball Valves – Practical
- Removing a Radiator for Decorating – Practical
- Making Repairs in Pipework Using Compression, Soldered and Plastic Push Fit – Practical
- Clearing Blockages in Waste Systems – Practical and theory
- Repairing/Replacing WC Cisterns Flush Mechanism: Syphon and Drop Valve – Practical
- Draining and Refilling Heating Systems and Adding Inhibitor – Practical and theory
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements however a willingness to engage and improve your skills is desirable.
