Door Supervisor Up-Skills
This qualification is designed for those learners who undertook their door supervision qualification prior to launch of the QCF door supervision qualification. It allows them to meet their mandatory top-up requirements for door supervisors and retain their SIA licence. It is based on the relevant SIA specification for learning and qualifications and is supported by Skills for Security (the Standard Setting Body for the security industry) and the SIA (who regulate the private security industry). The qualification comprises of two units – physical intervention skills for the private security industry and safety awareness for door supervisors.

About this course
On successful completion of the course, the delegate will receive a Door Supervisor Up-Skills certificate. I have been a trainer for 10 years. I train a variety of subjects, including security, licensing, first aid and teacher training. I have worked in the security industry for over 20 years, in various disciplines, including Close Protection, Door Supervision and as a CCTV operative. I utilise a variety of training techniques to ensure every learner feels included within the classroom environment.
Course programme
- Understand physical interventions and the legal and professional implications of their use.
- Understand how to reduce the risk of harm when physical intervention skills are used.
- Be able to use non-pain related physical skills to protect yourself and others from assault.
- Be able to use non-pain related physical standing, holding and escorting techniques, including non restrictive and restrictive skills.
- Understand good practice to follow after physical intervention.
- Understand counter terrorism issues relevant to door supervisors.
- Know the role of a door supervisor when first aid situations occur in licensed premises.
- Know legislation and requirements regarding children & young people relevant to door supervisors.
The course is run at a training venue over 2 days. The qualification is assessed in three parts:
- A practical test to demonstrate the physical intervention skills that have been taught.
- A true/false test which is set by the HABC (Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance) and marked by the tutor.
- The safety awareness for door supervisors component is assessed by a 15 question, multiple choice examination which is set by the HABC and marked by the tutor. A score of 70% must be achieved to pass this course.
