On Saturday mornings the studio is host to a class for adults who wish to draw and paint. This is very much a guided workshop with each individual usually working on their own projects.
Drawing is a particular passion of Jamie's- many of his solo shows have been of drawing. A drawing is a way of finding out, a way of letting people know, a way of solving problems, a chance to understand. Anything you do as an artist will be to do with drawing.
The exploration of and understanding of colour is married with the expressive qualities of the painter as participants work in a range of media including Oil, Acrylic, Watercolour, Alkyd, and various drawing and printmaking methods. This is a real all-rounder for artists, drawing upon the tutor's experiences working in various educational institutions throughout his career.

Course programme
This class varies a lot. Sometimes we can spend ten weeks learning about the various aspects of images- perspective, tone, colour, mark making, composition and other formal elements. This gives us the opportunity to deal with a variety of subject matter and to understand how to choose the most relevant method of drawing for you and the subject.
You should expect to be led step-by-step from drawing to finished painting as the works progress. You’d start by drawing the subject in different ways before looking at colour application, under-painting, blocking in, light values, reflected colour and blending and detailing techniques.
Sometimes these Saturday morning sessions can take place outside. Recently I ran a ten week course of drawing sessions where we visited places as varied as Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Cannon Hall and park, A Bodlean church, a dairy farm, and many others.
As the nature of this class always evolves, it’s worth getting in touch to find out what the next term holds.
