To equip students for careers in the development, use and knowledge of new and current drugs. To achieve this the course will provide a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of drug discovery and development, mechanisms of drug action, preclinical and clinical trials and regulatory affairs. In addition, a Biobusiness module is part of the degree.

About this course
A good first degree in Medicine, a Biological Science or Pharmacy is required. As this is an intensive programme, we require a high standard of English from overseas students. We ask for a minimum of 600 TOEFL or 6.5 IELTS. It is also recommended that borderline students attend the Pre-Sessional English course run by the University Language Centre.

Syllabus
The taught part of the course extends over two terms, consisting of 100 hours of lectures and 15 days of practical classes in addition to tutorials, seminars and clinical tuition. There are also practical laboratory sessions.

Second Half-Session:
- Drug Development to Evidence Based Medicine

- either Omics and research or Gene nutrient interactions
A thesis (MSc) or dissertation (PG Dip) involving original research is carried out during the programme. The research undertaken is linked to the areas of interest of the staff in the Department but special interests may be accommodated.
Assessment
Each course has its own assessment based on continuous assessment of practical and course work, and a written degree examination. Progression to the dissertation is dependent on performance in the individual courses. The dissertation is assessed at a viva examination.
