  • Once i got started i could see how straight forward the course was in terms of steps and progression towards understanding the methods and assessment frameworks. The course structur enables someone like me with no previous understanding of assessment to quickly grasp the basics of how the systems, procedures of unit based qualification actually work. Thank you Bright

What I would highlight: Initially i was apprehensive about the flexibility of online learning in that there would be time limits on assignments and this would prove difficult for me because i have a very demanding job. My apprehension was unfounded, the course was ideal in that i could work at my own pace and very much appreciated the flexibility it offered in the mist of an already busy schedule. My mentor was always on hand to answer my queries i had, no matter how big or small. She made my learning enjoyable and seamless, her regular contact proved to be very motivating and encouraging.

What I would highlight: I am currently studying for my DTLLS Award through Bright Assessing. I have found my mentor to be so helpful and friendly, I am working full time in a teaching role so my mentor comes into my workplace to observe and assess, which is really convenient. I feel so supported and at ease. I carried out my PTLLS with another company and had such a terrible experience I was very aprehensive about doing my DTLLS. Im so glad I did as I am thoroughly enjoying the course, the moodle is so user friendly and my mentor really is fantastic. I am offered all of the support I need and the guys at bright are always so helpful and friendly. Its really easy to fit this in with working full time. I am due to finish in a couple of months and them aftercare team are already sending me job opportunites my way and helping me with my CV. High reccomended.

Course programme

Diploma to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector Level 5

The DTLLS qualification is required for those carrying out a full teaching role and need to gain Qualified Teacher status (QTLS).

How is the training delivered?

You are allocated a mentor who will support you throughout the course and be available to answer any questions. She/he will contact you within 48 hours of registering to introduce him/herself.

Our DTLLS course is delivered through an online learning course (Moodle), consisting of virtual lessons, reading, questions and activities. Each module is covering a different aspect of the course and includes activities.

At the end of each unit there are specified assignments to complete, which are marked and internally moderated.

You will need to keep a log of 150 hours teaching, 3 hours of which will be observed by your mentor, and 5 need be observed by a colleague in your workplace. There is also a micro teach to attend, these are held locally throughout the UK.

Knowledge of relevant elements of minimum core is embedded within the coursework.

What happens afterwards?

Once you have completed DTLLS, it will enable you to be employed in a Full Teacher role and apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTLS).

How long does it take?

The total Guided Learning Hours for the DTLLS course is 360 plus 150 hours teaching. This is made up of Moodle, assignments as well as self study. The course length is 6-12 months. However you can complete it in your own pace. If you have already completed Bright’s level 4 CTLLS then you need an additional 120 hours teaching and just 5 observations completed by a colleague. The length is then 3-6 months
