e-Business BTEC (Level 3)

Campus: Cheadle and Marple

What is it?

A two year course which looks at a variety of the skills used in the developing e-Business world. e-Business is a new and growing channel for the provision of products and services. The broadest definition of e-business is any communication, interaction or transaction using internet technology.

Why do it?

E-business is expanding rapidly as the 21st century progresses and will make an increasing contribution to the growth of the UK economy. This means that it is imperative to raise the skill level of all those employed within the workforce to enable organisations to increase their competitiveness, expand their markets and improve the products and services they offer by means of the internet.

What skills do I need?

Basic IT skills including the ability to search the World Wide Web. The IT skills associated with the course will be developed, as they are required.

A willingness to collect, organise and interpret information to produce a portfolio of work

The ability to work independently and to meet deadlines.

How will I learn?

Well-qualified, highly experienced and enthusiastic tutors will teach you. You will learn through a wide range of learning activities including class discussions, group presentations, role-play, visits, work experience and individual research. This will be complemented by one-to-one tutorials to support coursework assessment.

Will there be coursework?

All assessment is coursework based. Students produce a portfolio of work that is internally and externally assessed. Having acquired the necessary skills you will be required to apply them in the development of solutions to a variety of assignments.

How much practical work is there?

The coursework is based on using information collected through the research of web based business organisations. You will be acquiring a wide variety of software skills and using these skills to produce solutions to problems.

Who takes it?

This course is taken by students who are keen to develop web based business skills and/or interested in joining the new digital industries.

What subjects go with it?

BTEC National e-Business fits well with a wide range of additional subjects, typical combinations, include: Economics, European Studies, IT, Law, Politics, Psychology, Sociology, and Media Studies. AAT in Accounting can also be studied alongside this course.

What can I do with it?

BTEC National e-Business sufficiently prepares you for further study in the subject at higher education or for a career in any area of web based business.

Several Universities have options within their Business courses whereas others have e-Business degrees.

Job opportunities are extensive, as are the opportunities for setting up your own business.

Any other useful information?

It is not necessary for you to have studied GCSE Business Studies or IT.
