Entry requirements: GCSE Grades 9-3If 3 grades are achieved in Maths and English students MUST also complete the GCSE to attain the 4-5 grade which is a requirement of ALL Engineering Programmes.All students below a 3 grade (if accepted after interview and initial assessment) MUST complete Functional Skills in the areas required.

Overview of the course:

The course gives learners an excellent insight to the practical skills required by Engineers in modern day manufacturing, using up to date industrial equipment.


Topics:

This qualification covers the fundamental skills and knowledge common to all engineering practices, including health and safety requirements and communicating engineering information. During this course learners will spend extensive time within the workshop environment where a great emphasis will be placed on Health and Safety and developing practical skills which will be formally assessed throughout the course.

The course consists of six units three of which are Mandatory:

• Working safely in an engineering environment
• Using and communicating technical information
• Working efficiently and effectively

The three optional units currently are:

• Producing components using hand fitting techniques
• Producing joints using MIG welding
• Producing components by turning

Further study options after this course:
Following successful completion of the course candidates may progress on to the Level 3 Engineering course, enter into an apprenticeship or employment.
