Course programme

Overview

This course replaces the Children and Young People's Workforce course and is designed for those who are working in a supervisory capacity in a children's care or educational setting, for example at a nursery, pre-school, crèche, school, as a family worker, child-minder, supervisor or manager. Learning will be through a mixture of lectures, workshops and assessment of workplace practice. Your designated assessor will support you to build your portfolio. There are a range of mandatory and optional units and the subjects covered will include:

  • child development,
  • healthy and safe environments,
  • childcare standards,
  • positive relationships,
  • professional practice,
  • learning and education.

Entry Requirements

  • You must have GCSE English Language and Maths at grade C or above.
  • You must be working in an early years setting at a supervisory level.
  • You must be in possession of a level 2 Childcare qualification or equivalent.
  • All students must have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check and supply two satisfactory references. Your place will be on conditional on this being deemed satisfactory.
  • An interview with a specialist tutor will also be required.
