2. Course description You'll cover all the areas of children's care and development that you'll need to work in an early years setting. You'll build on your existing knowledge of children's development and learning, as well as develop your understanding of current policies and practice in early years settings.  The course is also a great opportunity to develop a number of transferable skills such as discussion, presentation, essay and report-writing, problem-solving, planning, assessment, team working, and using ICT. During the course you'll need to work for at least ten hours per week in a childcare post, in either a voluntary or paid capacity. You'll study the following subjects: · study skills and current initiatives · personal development and professional practice · play, children's early learning and the curriculum · anti-discriminatory practice · observation and assessment · child development and wellbeing · safeguarding children · meeting individual needs · managing behaviour · working with parents and carers to support children · the curriculum in action · managing your professional role  The course is a great way to meet fellow early years professionals and share examples of best practice.

Entry requirements Normally you would be expected to have:  · a current and valid Level 3 Childcare/Early Years qualifications such as NNEB, DCE, BTEC Diploma or Extended Diploma, NVQ Level 3 ?· ? a minimum of two years' recent work experience in a relevant early years position ?· ?preferably GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C or above, or have equivalent qualifications at Level 2, or be working towards them (if you wish to progress to teacher training you'll also need a science GCSE at grade C)  You'll be invited to an interview and asked for suitable references.  A statement of support and commitment from your employer/mentor stating that they will be able to meet the full range of roles and responsibilities in the workplace will also be needed. 4. Assessment method Each module is assessed through a variety of methods including reports, portfolios, timed tests, presentations and small-scale investigations.
