Course programme

Our degrees have a modular structure. This means that compulsory modules provide you with the core knowledge and skills that you need, while optional and discovery modules allow you to shape your course to suit your personal interests and career aspirations.

Year 1 is designed to give you a good grounding in the key topics across economics and finance. You’ll learn the basics of management and financial accounting alongside fundamental financial concepts and techniques and economic theory. At the same time, you’ll build the skills you need to conduct your own research in economics alongside your mathematics and statistical knowledge.

Compulsory modules in Year 2 allow you to refine your mathematical and statistical skills, while you’ll develop your understanding of microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. You’ll also gain in-depth knowledge of corporate finance, and have the choice to continue studying either financial or management accounting.

In your final year, you’ll continue with microeconomics and macroeconomics. You’ll also have the chance to specialise through your choice of optional modules: you could learn about corporate governance, economic development, international business finance and a range of other topics, depending on your personal interests and career plans. You’ll also showcase the knowledge and skills that you’ve developed through an independently researched dissertation on a topic of your choice.
