Our BSc Economics is designed to provide you with a core of rigorous, technically demanding, yet applications-oriented, skills in economics. You will acquire the knowledge and skills needed to equip you for professions requiring economic literacy and the analytical tools expected from a top economics degree.
This is a rigorous course that combines an open admissions policy with high standards. Where there are gaps in your previous education we will fill those gaps, but you will also achieve the same standard of training in the core skills of economics as in any other economics degree.
This programme is also available for full-time evening study over three years.

About this course
Graduates can pursue careers in economics, financial services or accountancy. This degree may also be useful in becoming a chartered accountant, economist, financial risk analyst or statistician.

Course programme
This flexible programme is made up of 30-credit modules totalling 360 credits over four years. You can choose between two routes: normal and econometrics.
In Year 1, you take three compulsory modules, choosing between Quantitative Techniques I and Introductory Quantitative Techniques.
In Year 2:
- Normal route: you take three compulsory modules, choosing between Quantitative Techniques II and Quantitative Techniques for Applied Economics
- Econometrics route: you take three compulsory modules.
- Normal route: you take three compulsory modules, choosing between Quantitative Techniques III and Applied Statistics and Econometrics
- Econometrics route: you take two compulsory modules, one of which must be chosen from Microeconomic Theory and Policy, Macroeconomic Theory and Policy, and International Economics
- Normal route: you choose three option modules
- Econometrics route: you choose three option modules, one of which must be Microeconomics/Macroeconomics if you did not take Microeconomic Theory and Policy/Macroeconomic Theory and Policy in Year 3.
