Course programme

Course review:

The ambulance training courses recognised by NHS Ambulance Trusts and is the ONLY courses they put their staff through. You will find other shorter and therefore less expensive driving and clinical courses but beware that they are not recognised by the NHS. Furthermore, implementation of s.19 of the Road Safety Act 2006 is imminent. That will mandate that all emergency services drivers who may be required to exceed speed limits from time-to-time, whether they work for a statutory public service or a private ambulance service, MUST have undergone a recognised driving course with a minimum duration of three weeks and maximum ratio of students to instructors of 3:1. For ambulance, the IHCD D1+D2 are the only recognised courses that meet this requirement currently. Please see the separate listings of the D1 and D2 for details.

There is currently a high demand for IHCD Ambulance Technicians in the private ambulance sector as Care Quality Commission's regulation forces standards up. We can help you find a post with one of our many PAS clients across the UK who need to hire Technicians.

This is clinical training of seven weeks duration and includes theoretical and practical assessments in a classroom setting. Certification is not immediately issued; the trainee must go on to complete and log 750 hours of clinical experience before the award can be made. No specific qualifications are required to attend this course. Please view the IHCD Ambulance Personnel Syllabus attached for details of the course content.
