Entry Requirements

Preferably you will have a teaching or training specialism which you intend to consider teaching in the future.
There is no requirement for you to be teaching at present or to have previous teaching or training experience but it is an advantage to have some experience of classroom or training environments.

It is desirable that candidates looking to teach in Further Education have:

A qualification or considerable experience in the subject you intend to teach, usually at level 3 standard
Literacy skills at level 2, GCSE A*-C or the equivalent

Course programme

Summary

Courses start in September 2019, January 2020 & April 2020.
We offer the course on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings.

The duration of the course is 12 weeks (or 11 weeks in shorter academic terms – teaching hours are amended to allow for this). This introductory qualification is for people interested in teaching and training in further education colleges, independent training providers, local authorities and voluntary organisations.

You do not need to be working in a teaching role to complete this course.

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training will give an insight into

  • The roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Inclusive teaching and learning approaches
  • Planning and preparing lessons
  • How to assess and give constructive feedback
  • Assessment and record keeping

This is a 12 week programme delivered over 3 hours per week on a Tuesday morning or a Thursday evening.

Progression On successful completion of the programme candidates can progress onto: Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (1 year) - A minimum of 30 hours contracted teaching is needed to enrol. Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training- (2 year) - A minimum of 100 hours contracted teaching is required over 2 years (50 hours in each year) to enrol. NB: There is no requirement to complete the qualification suite in sequence. If you meet the admission requirements for any of our courses, you may enrol at any level without having done the subsequent qualifications.
