This pathway is for you if you're interested in how leadership and management work. It is suitable for practitioners working in a variety of settings: primary, secondary, FE and HE, Adult or Community Learning and who wish to review or update their practice, and develop their careers. The pathway is also suitable for those who wish to gain knowledge in this specialist area at any point in their careers.
About this course
Our graduates hold a wide range of leadership roles in education, across most sectors, from nurseries all the way to through to HE. We currently have Principals, Head Teachers, Executive Head teachers, Vice-Principals, and Deputy Heads on our pathway. In addition to these groups, we have those who aspire to senior leader roles in education - particularly those who currently hold middle management positions. The synergy that can be gained from getting individuals together who hold leadership roles, and adding those who are keen to join them, is not to be under-estimated. Graduates of our programme also return to discuss ideas, and their challenges, with current students.
You’ll usually need an undergraduate degree or an equivalent qualification and a role within education that will allow you to complete the work based assignments. Even if you don’t have these entry requirements it’s worth contacting us if you have relevant professional experience as we may be able to consider your application.

The module draws on a range of contemporary leadership and management theories, developing the critical and self-reflective and reflexive educational practitioner. The whole range of educational contexts can be used in order to provide exemplars of how leadership can be empowering and the module will be of interest to all staff who have access to educational contexts.
Developing Leadership CapacityThis thought-provoking module is of interest to those in the wider field of education and educational leadership roles. It examines organisational change, the impact of social policy, how developed cultures impact upon those who work across all sectors: state maintained, for-profit, and non-profit, and the role that both Government and leadership teams play in this. There are opportunities for developing soft skills and learning how to utilise leadership strategies to impact on workplace development.Part-time studentsAs a part-time student your studying will normally take place over three academic years, potentially choosing one module per term.
