Course review:

Writing is an essential form of business communication yet many of us are not confident about our work. We may have been poorly taught or developed bad habits. Or perhaps want to be more creative or dynamic. Whatever your education, job or background, this is an opportunity to improve your skills. This practical one-day course is designed to help delegates improve their writing skills – to write more fluently and clearly, with greater confidence and impact. We cover all the main areas of writing – what makes good writing, how to write for particular readers and markets, and sharpening and finalising your work.

The course uses lots of examples and practical exercises to: learn from the masters and mass markets; teach you the essentials of effective writing; and demonstrate and develop a good writing style. We show you how to write for specialist markets according to your needs and give you essential skills in spelling and grammar, editing and proofreading. The course is ideal for anyone who writes as part of their job and is looking to improve their writing. You may be a manager or project officer, a press or publications officer, a secretary or other support worker. All that matters is a willingness to put ‘pen to paper’.

Key training areas:

- Getting started - the writing process and how to make it easier - Learn from the professionals - Writing for different audiences and specialist markets - The five essentials for effective writing - Developing a good writing style - Sentences, paragraphs and structure - Things to look out for when editing - House styles - Proof reading skills - Practical writing exercises with individual tutor feedback
