During this course we apply the fact that electricity can be used to transport and deliver energy. It lights our homes, runs many of our domestic gadgets and keeps the wheels of industry turning. It is such an established and reliable part of our lives that we often take it for granted, yet it remains a fascinating and developing field of study.

Electrical engineering deals with the study of motors and generators and their control, power transmission and distribution systems and the principles that underlie them. In electronic engineering we apply electricity to carry, process and store information. This is the driving force behind today's information revolution, and forms the basis of everyday devices like the mobile phone and the computer, as well as a huge range of systems used in commerce and industry. You'll discover how electronics depends heavily on semiconductor technology, and that while electrical and electronic engineering depend on the same fundamental scientific laws, they diverge widely beyond these basics.

We've developed this part time course for students who are already working in a relevant area. The exciting thing about the course is that your employer becomes a partner in your education and you continue to study in your workplace. You'll take some work based learning modules, which will be tailored to the needs of you and your workplace.

About this course

When you have finished this course you will be able to take on a responsible role applying the new skills you have learned. You'll be able to work in many areas of professional activity including design, support, installation, operations and maintenance, with a good chance of moving into team leadership or management. As you're already in employment, you will be able to advance your role and take on more complex and challenging activities.
