About the course:
This is a one year award aimed at people wishing to gain knowledge and experience of basic electrical engineering. The award starts with the very basics of electrical engineering and moves through a succession of exercises that enables the learner to aquire a basic level of competence in the industry. The course is a combination of theory and practical sessions undertaken in purpose built electrical workshops and laboratories. Regular checking and assessment of learners will be carried out in order to maintain progress.
Course Content:
This is a basic engineering award that consists of three common units that all candidates will study plus two optional units. Common units are: working safely in an engineering environment, working efficiently and effectively in engineering and using and communicating technical information. The optional units will include the installation of basic electrical systems, wiring electrical equipment and circuits and assembling electrical wiring support. To aid progression to the level 2 award the following key skills may also be studied: application of number level 1, communication level 1 and information technology level 1.
Equipment Requirements:
All learners are required to supply their own work boots/shoes suitable for workshop activities and adequate paper, pens ruler, calculalor to enable participation in all theory classes.
Assessment:
Course assessment is ongoing throughout to monitor progress and understanding. Regular one to one interviews will take place during each term to check progress and establish if any further assistance is required to help the learner. There are no formal examinations but the completion of a portfolio of evidence is required for a successful outcome.
Progression:
Successful completion of the level 1 will enable learners to apply for progress on to the PEO level 2 award. The next level of key skills may also be undertaken.
Additional Information:
If you are on a qualifying means tested benefit the tuition fees for some courses can be reduced, however you will still need to pay for Exams and College costs. You must claim tuition fee remission by providing evidence before enrolment.
