History

Rob Ashton set up Emphasis in 1998, after a career in magazine and journal editing. He moved into publishing after working in medical research and local government. So he is equally at home working on highly technical documents and on those concerning public policy. We have worked with a huge range of organisations in the public and private sectors. These include the Environment Agency, RAC, the Home Office, Boehringer Ingelheim, Norwich Union, HSBC, GlaxoSmithKline, RBS, MoD, Gillette, Ernst & Young and DLA Piper. In all cases, we've helped make their documents much clearer and more effective.

Advantages of studying here

All Emphasis consultants are writing experts – we don't train in any other field. That means we have the breadth of knowledge to tackle any area of business writing: from company communications audits to report-writing courses; from bid-writing advice to handling complaint letters; from technical-writing courses to writing for the web. Before training, we analyse a sample of each delegate’s writing, measured against 14 key criteria. We then produce a graph to illustrate how to target certain areas and achieve an immediate improvement in the quality of writing. All delegates are also signed up to the Write On continuous learning programme, which gives bi-monthly bookmark reminders of key learning messages. So if you need an intelligent, interactive and lively programme in any kind of business-writing skill, speak to us. Whatever your problem is, we’ll have the solution.
