About the course

The purpose of the Engineering Bridging Unit (Further Education to Higher Education) is to fill the academic gap in maths and science and to provide study skills (independent study) along with an understanding of organising and managing engineering operations.

It is aimed at those who wish to enter higher education courses in engineering (Higher National Certificate or Foundation Degree) and are either undertaking the ‘craft’ Apprenticeship route or who are mature employees that have been out of education for some time.

Entry requirements

You will need to have a level 3 Technical Certificate or equivalent such as an A Level. We also welcome applications from those currently in industry or who have had relevant industry experience. Should the entry requirements not be met then individual cases will be considered.

What you'll learn

Advanced Mathematics and Science
This unit will enable you to develop the skills in, and understanding of, mathematics and science to facilitate progression onto awards that require a level 3 mathematics and science component. It is primarily aimed at those who wish to progress to higher education and has been applied to practical engineering principles of mathematics topics.

Organising and Managing Engineering Operations
This unit will enable you to develop an understanding of the principles of organisation and management and the ways in which engineering activities can be efficiently planned and implemented. You will not be expected to have an in-depth understanding of all engineering activities and strategies, but you should be familiar with the events/terminology that you will come into contact with during normal working conditions.
