About this course
By the end of the course, you should be able to identify significant social, intellectual, and political changes which
took place in the six centuries we cover in our course; to explain how and why each of the people introduced and
discussed made a difference to the society in which they lived.
You may well wish to buy a recommended book or two. Some visits are recommended, which may involve travel and
entrance fees, although these are not part of the course itself.
Reviews
Course programme
The changing intellectual and trading environment of early medieval Europe; the contribution each of our subjects made to their own social, political, religious and cultural environment; the impact of our subjects’ lives on the subsequent development of their people.
Most sessions involve the tutor presenting prepared talk or lecture. These are illustrated with slides. There is ample opportunity for questions and discussion. As the course progresses you may wish to review an aspect of our course to the group, but this is not a requirement. Detailed notes and bibliographies, with suggested topics for further enquiry, are provided for most sessions.Additional information
