Introduction:
This course is for adults who wish to gain a formal qualification in English that is nationally recognised.

Study Mode & Location:
This 30 week part-time course lasts for 2 hours per week and will be held at Preston College, St. Vincent`s Road, Fulwood, PRESTON PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
Students will study a range of literary and non-literary texts and produce coursework assignments. Some assignments assess reading skills, testing the ability to understand and comment on a section of a Shakespeare play, and to compare poems from different cultures. Others assess the ability to write in suitable forms for different purposes and audiences. Practice in skills of spelling, punctuation and grammar is included in the preparation for the coursework.

Speaking and listening coursework assignment include discussions, presentations and drama-based activities.

Lessons later in the course concentrate on preparation for the examination.

Assessment:
  • Written coursework - (20%)
  • Speaking and listening coursework - (20%)
  • Two examinations assessing reading and writing skills - (30% each)


Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Essential for access to higher level courses, particularly Higher Education. GCSE English is also essential for many careers.

How To Apply
You will need to have an informal interview with an Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
