What is the course about?
This popular one to two year course is a good choice if you want to study a range of different types of texts while also developing your own writing skills. The course allows you to study language and literature as interconnected areas and will increase your understanding and enjoyment of both.
AS Level - Year 1
The two AS units provide an introduction to the course through the analysis of both literary and non-literary texts. In Unit 1 you will explore the differences between speech and writing, and examine the way writers create and use voice in literature. For Unit 2 you will read widely in a single topic area and produce a coursework folder of your own writing.
The AS set texts include the novels 'The Collector' by John Fowles and 'The Color Purple' by Alice Walker, and the play 'Someone Who'll Watch Over Me' by Frank McGunness.
A2 Level - Year 2
Two more units will extend your skills further in the second year of the course. Unit 3 involves the study of thematically linked texts and Unit 4 consists of a coursework folder of your own writing.
