English for Life & Work in the UK – Adults – Preparation for IELTS

This course is for you if are new to the UK you want to improve your English language skills so that you can stay and work successfully. You will study for 4 hours a week, usually over 1 or 2 days or evenings.

This course will help you improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. We will test your language abilities before you start to make sure you study this course at the right level for you.

At Entry Level this course will also prepare you for IELTS Life Skills test which you can take at A1 or B1 level. Passing this assessment will give you the language skills evidence you need if you want to apply for UK Spouse visas, indefinite leave to remain, or UK citizenship.

At Level 1 this course will also prepare you for IELTS General Skills assessment, aiming for a score of between 5.0 and 6.0. An IELTS score at this level will give you the language skills evidence you need for a Tier 4 study visa and for entry onto Access and Foundation Degree courses.

At Level 2 this course will also prepare you for IELTS Academic Skills assessment, aiming for a score above 6.0. An IELTS score at this level or above will give you the language skills evidence you need for enrolment onto University degree courses or for working in the UK public sector (NHS, local councils and schools)

The course will also help you to develop other skills and knowledge you may need to work successfully in the UK. Classes include CV writing skills, job-interview skills, information about workplace safety and UK employment rights and responsibilities.
