Course programme

Year One comprises two Units: Unit 1 - Aspects of Narrative This Unit will focus on two novels and selected writing of two poets and will be assessed by a two hour exam. Unit 2 - Dramatic Genres You will study two plays within the comedy genre. At least one will be a play by Shakespeare. This Unit is assessed by coursework. Year Two comprises a further two Units. Unit 3 - Texts and Genres: You will study texts from the gothic genre, which will be a mixture of drama, short stories and a novel. This Unit is assessed by a two hour examination. Unit 4 - Further and Independent Reading: You will study a wide range of texts, some independently. This unit focuses on literary theory, and how authors create meaning. You will also look at the key questions associated with literature - How can we define literature? Why are some texts given a higher status than others? This Unit is assessed by two pieces of coursework.
