The Programme
This is a course suitable for those students who are passionate about reading and enjoy discussing and writing about literature. You will study a wide variety of texts from different periods and genres during the programme, building on the skills you acquired at GCSE level.
The Programme Content
You will study Aspects of Narrative for the exam at AS. This will involve studying how stories are told in two novels and two poetry texts. For the coursework you will write about the genre of tragedy which will include a play by Shakespeare. In the second year you will study the Gothic genre and also complete coursework which involves further and independent learning.
Progression / Careers
You could go on to study English at university or combine it with another subject for a joint honours degree. English A Level is a course which is highly regarded for entry into many subjects at university. The analytical skills you develop in English are important for a wide variety of careers.
