A Level English Literature covers a range of set texts from different genres and time periods. Texts studied vary from Shakespeare's Othello to Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale. Students are required to read texts in a variety of ways and respond critically and creatively, explore connections between texts, establishing links and relationships, use literary terminology and draw on their understanding of different interpretations.

What you need to know
How will I study?

You will study a range of set texts as outlined in the description of the course.
How will I be taught?

You have 4.5 hours in class a week split between 2 lessons. Emphasis is placed on discussion and activities to do with set texts though occasional lecture-style delivery features in lessons. Discussion is divided into whole class discussion and pair/ small groups.
How will I be assessed?

The course is now a 2 year linear course with 3 exams at the end of your 2 years, ranging from poetry to Drama. 20% of your grade is coursework. You will be assessed at the end of year one to see if you can progress to year two.
