Course description For lovers of literature, keen communicators and those with creative, enquiring minds ; If you enjoy reading a wide range of texts including poetry, plays and novels, then this is the course for you. It will enhance your ability to appreciate and analyse a wide variety of literature and develop the skills needed to be able to write critically and creatively. , , You'll study tragedy, including Shakespeare's Othello, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, and a novel and poetry by Thomas Hardy. You'll also explore power, inequality, oppression and rebellion, including William Blake poetry and two modern novels. You will also examine texts from varied critical perspectives, such as feminist and Marxist interpretations, and question what constitutes ‘value' in literature., , Many students proceed to English degree courses, with career choices including journalism, teaching, public relations, law and the media, and other areas where confidence and competence in communicating are valuable,
