What is the course about?
This one or two year course is the first choice for students who enjoy reading and who want to study a course that is relevant to their lives and experiences. You will be able to study a range of literary texts and develop your analytical and essay writing skills.
AS Level - Year 1
The first year of the course provides an introduction to literary conventions and genres. In Unit 1 you will study narrative in novels and poetry. In Unit 2 you will explore the dramatic genre of tragedy across a range of plays.
AS set texts include 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' by Mark Haddon, 'Great Expectations' by Charles Dickens, 'Death of a Salesman' by Arthur Miller, 'Othello' by William Shakespeare and the poetry of Robert Browning and Christina Rossetti.
A2 Level - Year 2
In the second year of the course your analytical skills and knowledge of literature will be developed further. In Unit 3 you will explore the literary genre of the gothic in poetry, drama and prose fiction. In Unit 4 you will be encouraged to apply critical theories to your reading.
