This course has been designed to get students, whose first language isn't English, ready to attend an English speaking university. English for University focuses on developing all the necessary skills that you will need to succeed during your university studies, as well as improving your general English skills. About this course
By the time students have finished this course they will have the confidence and ability with their language skills to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level in a UK university.
Students will also have the opportunity to learn about key parts of British life which will no doubt help them fit smoothly into the university environment.
The programme is delivered in English, allowing students the opportunity to become familiar with the language they will encounter in the university environment.
IELTS preparation is a key part of the programme, getting you prepared to perform to the best of your ability in the exam. The IELTS exam is the most popular English as a foreign language testing system in the world and the vast majority, if not all, of universities in the UK use it as a measurement of English language ability.

Course programme
Students will encounter lessons delivered in a range of styles, including:
Classroom lessons – your teacher will provide information, set work and guide debates or discussions
Lectures – tutor-driven lessons
Workshops – working in small groups, working to instructions and objectives, delivering presentations, analysis and reflections
Seminars – presenting and discussing written assignments
Group work –autonomous learning including problem-solving, decision making and role allocation
Debates - formal and informal to improve expression and how to tell between fact and fiction
This is to make sure that tuition is varied so that you learn through a variety of different teaching methods in the same way that you will at university.
Students are taught to prepare for their IELTS exam by expanding their knowledge of English and learning about exam technique.
