You will explore the theories around adult learning and evaluate a series of teaching methods as well as your own learning and supervision needs as a practice educator.

The course will assist you in developing your knowledge and skills in designing and planning learning activities to facilitate the learning of others and developing learning opportunities for students.You will explore and critically analyse your professional development as a practice educator and reflect on how you can use a variety of methods in practice education. Higher Education Institution (HEI) processes and quality assurance systems related to practice education will also be considered.

You will have the opportunity to demonstrate critical reflection on your development as a practice educator through feedback from colleagues, HEI tutors and other assessment sources. As well as reflect on how you can continue to perform as an effective practice educator in accordance with the Practice Educator Professional Standards for Social Work.

Please note, in order to be able to independently support and assess social work students in line with the Practice Educator Framework, you must have successfully completed the [Developing Practice Educator Skills|00007014] short course or equivalent prior to undertaking this short course.

About this course

This course provides you with the opportunity to qualify as a stage two practice educator in accordance with the requirements of the Practice Educator Framework.

This short course may assist you to meet the specialist skills and post registration development requirements stipulated by your employer/professional regulator.

Be a qualified social worker registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.
Have successfully completed the [Developing Practice Educator Skills|00007014] short course or equivalent.
Act as a practice educator for a social work student alongside the course in order to complete the assessment.

This short course meets the requirements of the Practice Educator Framework, Domains A-D.

Course programme

Teaching and assessment

You will be taught through a series of lectures, seminars and workshops. Your studies will be supported by the University’s virtual learning environment.

Assessment will include of a 20 minute presentation. Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.

Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results. Feedback on exam performance/final coursework is available on request after the publication of results.
