This is a one year full time combined course and you will be able to find out about working in a hairdressing salon and beauty salon.  The course will prepare you for the Level 1 Diploma programmes.
•  You will need to look smart
•  You will need to have a passion for the hairdressing or beauty industries
•  You will be meeting customers so you need to present a professional image
•  You need to attend all lessons on time
•  You will be advised of any materials you will need to purchase for your course, such as a hair or beauty
    kit and salon uniform, when you attend the Welcome Event

Units will vary according to the awarding body criteria.

You will be covering an additionality to improve your employability skills and personal development while at college.
As with all our programmes, this course includes tutorial sessions and individual reviews, giving you individual time with your personal tutor. You may also be required to study and achieve further qualifications in English and Maths to assist in your personal development.
You will spend an evening each week in our salons, to build up your commercial experience.

Course programme

On successful completion of all parts of the course and with good attendance, you can progress on to either a VRQ Level 1 Hairdressing programme, a VRQ Level 1 Beauty programme or the VRQ Level 1 Hair & Media Make-up programme.

Hair and Media Make-up can provide an exciting and rewarding career if you are practical and creative and enjoy working with clients. It is a demanding occupation which requires good health, stamina, a capacity for hard work and the ability to work well as part of a team. It will give you an insight into a commercial salon environment.

No formal entry requirements but desire to learn.
Keen interest in your chosen subject area.

In addition to the entry qualifications listed, the offer of a place on the course is subject to the outcomes of initial assessment, which will be taken at the College as part of the admissions process. Please note that entry criteria may vary quite significantly between courses at the same level. This is to take account of the specific skills needed for success on particular courses, the length of the course and the requirements for progression to the next level. Entry criteria are given as a guide, and the exact requirements in order to obtain a place on a particular course will be confirmed following attendance at a Welcome Event/Interview.

We want you to achieve to the very best of your ability at CRC. To make this happen we offer both learning and personal support by specialist staff tailored to meet your specific needs.

Learning will be both practical and written.

• You will also work with clients within our hairdressing and beauty salons

Assessment will take place in The Park where the college's hair and beauty salons are based. You will have the opportunity to use an extensive range of high quality hair products and excellent new specialist equipment. You will be expected to demonstrate your competence in all units to the standard required in industry.

Assessment takes place throughout the programme by a variety of methods including:
. Practical assessment
. Discussion
. Written assessment by assignment and/or tests
. Projects, portfolio and a log book
