The course is offered to students already working in the Environmental Conservation industry who wish to study through work based learning. The course places great emphasis on practical ability backed up with an understanding of the principles involved. The Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticehips offer high quality training, to meet the environmental conservation industry standards. The qualifications were designed by the industry for employers and this ensures that the training you receive will equip you with the skills needed by the horticulture industry.

Course programme

You will be assisted by the College to find a suitable work placement with a local employer. Whilst at work, you will receive comprehensive practical training designed to develop your competence at carrying out relevant real-life environmental conservation tasks that your employer will value. You will be visited regularly by a qualified Assessor to check on your progression and to ensure that you are building evidence towards your final qualification. You will visit the college one day per week to work towards gaining detailed underpinning knowledge of your chosen subject area. Course content could include (depending on option chosen): Working practices Prepare ground for seeding & planting Establish & protect moorland vegetation Maintaining plants Environmental machinery Health and safety and legislation Identification and use of plants Carry out habitat management
