Rio 2016 Summer Olympics attracted much public attention and the summer of 2016 has put Brasil into the spotlight. However, even the biggest world's sports event was not enough to solve the country's far-gone problems of contaminated water. The experts pointed out that even yachting and rowing match location water was too dirty, and both the sportsmen and fans were exposed to danger of a serious disease, as water contained viruses and bacteria. The Olympic Games presented Rio de Janeiro an opportunity to clean water, but the municipality suffered a lack of finance, specialists, and a simple wish to do so.
It is not safe to bath in any water bodies in South America. But Lithuanians may be happy with their water, which may be consumed right from the tap. The Baltic Sea is cold but safe to bath. Even the River Nemunas, which had been polluted sometime in the past, now has clean water. This is the result of work of Environmental Engineering study programme specialists.
Environmental protection today is crucially important for the world's populace, as it is demonstrated by scientific research that the climate warming and waste levels are still growing, and the ozone layer is getting thin. This study program provides not only environmental engineering knowledge but also is aimed at the development of the skills necessary to monitor and assess environmental pollution tasks, to plan and implement engineering environmental pollution prevention measures, to improve the status of environmental quality, to design modern environmental facilities that improve the quality of human life for the.
