EPILEPSY AWARENESS AND BUCCAL AND NASAL MIDAZOLAM ADMINISTRATION
Course Content & Certificate
The course is designed for social care staff who may be required to administer Buccal and or Nasal Midazolam and covers the following topics:
Awareness: definition of epilepsy - prevalence - classification of seizures -
principles of managing seizures - impact of epilepsy on lifestyle - differences between status epilepticus and serial seizures
Buccal/Nasal Midazolam: organisational policies - procedures for buccal and nasal administration - potential difficulties - legal and ethical considerations - local and national resources for the support of people with epilepsy
Successful completion of the course gives a Training for Care Certificate of
Attendance.
Tutors and Teaching
Tutors are TfC professional associates or staff who are qualified nurses and are experienced in working with people with epilepsy.
Teaching on the course is interactive with good opportunity to share and discuss course-related issues in the workplace. There is also a video presentation and a practical exercise.
