Course programme

Many occupational health and safety practitioners are often faced with ergonomics issues as they deal with the negative outcomes from poor physical design of workstations and workplaces. The course will focus on resolving the issues that may arise from un-ergonomic design of the workplace. It will provide you with practical processes, tools and understanding for preventing work-related musculoskeletal disorders such as back injuries and upper extremity repetitive strain injuries. This course also aims to provide necessary additional skills required for the successful practice of ergonomics in the workplace. It provides a framework to understand what ergonomics processes need to be in place, as well as how to carry out some of these processes including how to perform a risk assessment and implement successful ergonomics solutions. The expectation is that this course will give you enough of a background to implement successful MSD prevention and reduction projects. Familiarization with this topic has become increasingly important given the inclusion of ergonomics regulations in occupational health and safety acts as well as standards and best practices. Only by demystifying ergonomics and implementing practical processes and evidence-based solutions, can we get a handle on the high number of MSDs we see in the workplace. This course is here to help you do just that. The certificate program is recognized for eligibility by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP). This course may be eligible for BCRSP Continuing Maintenance Points (CMPs).
