This programme is for people who work in volatile environments and need to learn effective techniques of calming and negotiation. This is the process which should always precede any physical coping strategies such as control and restraint. The emphasis here is on "learning by doing".

GOALS - by the end of the course the participants will:

  • Have developed new perspectives around their personal triggers.
  • Have developed an understanding of conflict as a cognitive behavioural process.
  • Have practised (through role-play, discussion, group-work, etc) succesful de-escalation techniques.

The Learning Components:

      • Personal Safety
      • Transactional Analysis and your usual position in conflict situations
      • The Calm Persona
      • The Empathic Communicator
      • The Assault Cycle
      • The Four Rules of De-escalation
      • Causes of Conflict - triggers, patterns
      • The Conflict Process - Chains of Conflict (deconstruction and misconstruction)
